For many university students, being able to understand design theory and being able to practice it are two very distinct problems. The former is addressed ad-nauseum in most courses; the latter, however, is something that evolves over time. And while universities do a fine job in teaching the principles of design, the mystery of what day-to-day life is really like after graduation remains a mystery.
This presentation is an inward looking assesment of who I am, what I do, how I do it, and how I got to where I am. I explain the existance of different design roles, and that some companies lean toward specialization of roles while others value generalization. I also share with students design deliverables from real projects and hold an impromptu design review.
